Comrade Bosun Olabiyi has emerged as the new Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).

Olabiyi emerged during the State Triennial Delegates conference which was held at the conference hall of the National Museum of Unity, Aleshinloye, Ibadan, Oyo State, Southwest, Nigeria after a business session where members brainstormed on current activities and happenings as it relates to the Union.

Comrade Bosun in his address after his emergence, assured members of the promotion of workers and masses-driven leadership, decrying the deteriorating state of the economy which, according to him, contributed to the poor living conditions of workers in the country.

He also lauded the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for his labour-friendly gesture, promotion of civil servants as at when due and prompt payment of salaries.

The new chairman promised to employ periodic meetings and dialogue with the government on issues affecting the interest of workers and for promoting workers’ relationship with the government, urging other contestants to work with the new leadership in a bid to frontally address issues that affect members.

Other members of the executive that also emerged include, Comrade Oluranti Oluwemimo (Vice-chairman), Comrade Balogun Kehinde, (Secretary), Comrade Abioye Adeyemi, (Treasurer) and Comrade Fatokun Oyebola (Public Relations Officer), amongst others.

The Oyo State chapter of the TUC had been without substantive leadership following the expiration of the tenure of the former leader of the Union in the state.

The new leadership is now emerging after several attempts at electing a new leadership had failed or been thwarted by the activities of contestants to the various positions.

The event was attended by government officials and functionaries, the media, affiliate unions as well as labour veterans.
