Trading on Nigerian Stock Exchange picks up by 0.09 percent

Trading activities on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited picked up marginally on Wednesday to close the day with a 0.09% growth.

The Market Capitalization advanced by 18 billion Naira or 0.09% to 20,220 trillion Naira from 20,202 trillion Naira recorded on Tuesday.

While the All-Share Index advanced 34.32 basis points to 38,636.15 basis points from 38,601.83 basis points.

At the close of the day’s trading activities, only 14 stocks gained, 22 stocks declined while all others closed flat.

At the top of the gainers’ chart is GUINNESS NIG PLC which opened today’s trading activities at the selling price of N24.10k per share, ended with a selling price of N26.50k per share, gaining N2.40k or 9.96%.

Next is MEYER PLC with an opening selling price of 0.49k per share to close at 0.53k per share, gaining 0.04k or 8.16%.

And WEMA BANK PLC opened at 0.57k per share and closed at 0.60k per share, gaining 0.03k or 5.26%.

On the reverse side, N NIG. FLOUR MILLS PLC led the losers with a drop of 0.60k or 10.00% in selling price from N6.00k to N5.40k per share.

Followed by FIDSON HEALTHCARE PLC with a fall from N4.75k per share to N4.28k per share by 0.47k or 9.89%.

Then CUTIX PLC which fell from N2.25k per share to N2.03k per share by 0.22k or 9.78%.

The negative sentiment also spread across sectoral board with all sectors declining except for the Consumer Goods Index which increased from 548.31 basis points to 549.55 basis points by 4.4 basis points or or 2.2%.

The Banking Index declined from 348.91 basis points to close at 348.20 basis points by 0.71 basis points or 0.2%, the Insurance Index fell from 201.35 basis points to 196.95 basis points by 1.24 basis points or 0.23%, the Oil/Gas Index fell from 264.78 basis points to 264.64 basis points by 0.14 basis points or 0.05% and the Industrial Index declined from 1,874.57 basis points to 1,874.45 basis points by 0.12 or 0.01%.
