The National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria has promised to support the conduct of the 2023 population and housing Census to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
Chairman of the Council, the Monarch of Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, stated this when he led a delegation of traditional leaders across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria on a courtesy visit to the National Population Commission, NPC, in Abuja.
Ahalji Abubakar said; ”there was a need for them to champion the country’s 2023 National Population and Housing Census, to help government in national planning and development.”
He stated that without accurate data on the number of citizens in the country, it will be difficult to plan any meaningful development, urging Nigerians to avail themselves when it’s time to be counted.
The Monarch further said that their presence at the Commission in Abuja Nigeria’s Capital, was to show their readiness to support the National Population Commission to achieve credible National Census in 2023.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Nasir Kwarra received the delegations of the traditional leaders at the National Population Commission’s office in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.
Mr Kwarra said he recognised their role as custodians of the people, culture and traditions at the grassroots and therefore have critical roles to play to acuatulise the conduct of the 2023 Census.
He stressed that the 2023 National Population and Housing Census is technologically driven and is the first digital Census in the country which is innovative driven.
Mr Kwarra called on all Nigerians to avail themselves to be counted to enable Nigeria have an accurate population figures for National planning and development.
A Commissioner in the Commission representing Oyo State Southwest Nigeria, Dr. Tayo Oyetunji commended the traditional leaders for being Brand Ambassadors for 2023 National and Housing Census in the country.
