The Federal Lawmakers in Nigeria have been told that the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, is not for concessions as widely speculated in the local media.
The Minister of power, Abubakar Aliyu gave the assurance on Tuesday while addressing members of the National Assembly joint committee on power concerning the 2023 budget proposal.
Apart from confirming that the TCN is not up for privatisation, the Minister as well as the Legislators expressed worry that the finance minister Zainab Ahmed, still identifies some existing power projects as new projects in the proposed 2023 budget.
Senator Gabriel Suswan who is the Chairman of the committee thereafter summoned the finance minister to clarify before the National Assembly, issues regarding the multi-lateral power projects which continue to appear in the annual budget as fresh projects.
Senator Suswan also echoed the concern of most lawmakers, that many electricity transformers installed across Nigerian communities have not been energised.
He urged the management of the rural electrification agency to address the issue, and help to resolve the problem of electricity among rural dwellers.
Senator Suswan also described as nonexistent, the Mambilla electricity power project, said to be located in Taraba state northeast Nigeria.
