Troops Block Oil Theft, Strengthen Fight Against Terrorism

Troops of Operation Delta Safe have intercepted stolen crude oil worth over N25 million and destroyed about 26,000 litres of illegally refined products in the Niger Delta in Southern Nigeria.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, said in a statement, that the successes were achieved in collaboration with other security agencies and Hybrid Forces.

According to him, “these achievements reflect the unwavering resolve of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity of our nation against all threats.”

General Kangye stated that coordinated air and ground operations during the week under review led to the neutralisation of key threats, rescue of victims, recovery of arms and ammunition, as well as the destruction of hideouts.

Other items destroyed were three boats, seven storage tanks, and eight illegal refining sites.

Recovered items included pumping machines, mobile phones, three tricycles, and four vehicles. In addition, 33 suspects linked to oil theft and related crimes were arrested.
