Nigerian troops have made significant strides in ongoing military operations, neutralising 156 terrorists and arresting 464 individuals from various geopolitical zones.

During a briefing in Abuja, Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, provided updates on these operations, emphasizing the successful capture of 29 individuals involved in oil theft and the rescue of 181 kidnapped hostages.

In the South-South region, the military thwarted oil theft operations, preventing the loss of over N623 million. Additionally, the troops recovered 219 weapons, including AK47 rifles, grenades, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), along with 2,871 rounds of various ammunition.

Significant action was also taken in the Niger Delta, where 48 crude oil cooking ovens, 56 storage tanks, and 46 illegal refining sites were destroyed. Troops confiscated over 700,000 litres of stolen crude oil and several boats, vehicles, and pumping machines linked to illegal activities.

Despite occasional tactical setbacks, General Buba reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defeating terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria, particularly in the North West and North East, where foreign fighters from the Sahelian region have fueled instability. He urged citizens to consider security a collective responsibility, stressing that compromising security threatens everyone.

In a poignant moment, General Buba reflected on the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, honoring the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for national security. This briefing also marked his final one as Director of Defence Media Operations, as he prepares to transition from the role.
