Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, alongside Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS),on February 2, 2025, successfully dismantled a notorious bandit camp in the Angwan Bala, Kambari area of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State.
The Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni confirmed that the operation led to the neutralisation of one bandit, while 23 others, including 19 males and 4 females, surrendered.
The troops acted on reliable intelligence regarding the movement of suspected bandits. Upon reaching the hideout, the bandits opened fire on the patrol team, prompting a swift and overwhelming response from the military personnel.
A thorough search of the camp resulted in the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including:
4 AK-47 rifles
5 AK-47 rifle magazines
80 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
1 English-made pistol
2 locally made guns
28 cutlasses
16 motorcycles
48 daggers and jack knives
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bandits, originally from Plateau State, had paid a local chief in Amar village N1.5 million to set up their camp in the area.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their bravery and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring the security and stability of Taraba State.
He also stressed the importance of community collaboration in tackling banditry and other criminal activities.
