Troost-Ekong targets EPL promotion with Watford
Watford defender, William Troost-Ekong says the team’s primary focus is to continue with their impressive form and ensure they gain promotion to the English Premier League next season.
The Nigeria international, whose team are on a four-game winning streak and have lost just one of their last 10 games, said he was not worried about what their top-six rivals were doing.
The Golden Boys are level on points with second-place Brentford, but Troost-Ekong, while speaking with the club’s media team, insisted that despite the good run of form, they were not getting carried away, saying they wanted to take it one game at a time.
“There is still a long way to go and we have to play Norwich and all the teams around us.
“I still think it’s difficult to say how many points we will need for automatic promotion. In the past it’s been between 75 and 90 points, so we want to reach that level before we start looking around at others.
“We’ve got a board up and just crossing off the wins we think we need. I know it’s a cliche, but we are taking each game as it comes and the coach is hammering that into us. We aren’t looking at any calculations,” he said.
The Hornets are currently third on the Championship log with 60 points from32 matches.
