A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Ikenna Egbuna and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), for the Onitsha North and South Federal constituency in the last general election, Honourable Chugbo Enwezo have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state.
Egbuna, who has never publicly joined any political party, had sometime in the past contested the Onitsha South Local Government chairmanship position as an independent candidate and later faced his legal practice.
However, Hon. Enwezor was a two-time former Anambra State House Assembly member, who after eight years in office contested for Onitsha North and South Federal constituency seat in the last general election as an APGA candidate.
The two successful legal practitioners were received during a mini-rally organized by the Chairman of APC in Onitsha North, Hon. Ezennia Ojekwe.
Addressing the party faithfuls, Egbuna, SAN, said that he has represented some members of the party in the election tribunal and assured that with his presence, the party will no longer suffer legal intimidation in the state.
He said that he would contribute his quota in ensuring the growth of the party to unseat the APGA government in the next governorship election in the state.
Hon Enwezor, in his speech, said that his decision to join APC is to ensure that the state is a strong player in the national political space, adding that only people who are present at the table, get their shares.
According to him, “APGA will not lead us anywhere. We must stop thinking that APC belongs to any tribe in Nigeria. APC is the party of everybody in Nigeria, not for Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or any tribe but for all of us.
“The time when we were brainwashed with the claim that APGA is for us has gone. If we continue to stay in APGA we will not go far in national politics. If you are not at the sharing table, you cannot get anything.
“APGA does not cross the Niger Bridge. Soludo will leave APGA with time. Peter Obi ruled under APGA and left for PDP before joining Labour Party, LP. Willie Obiano, ruled under APGA and left, are you seeing him in APGA events? The incumbent Governor will do the same at the appropriate time. Dr George Moghalu became NIWA MD because he is in APC.
“We are coming to fortify the party and to take over the governorship seat at Agu Awka. Henceforth, APC will win all the elections in Onitsha and the State in general. We must all join hands to lift the party. The members should not be intimidated by our coming. The party is too big for all to participate. Unity and oneness is what we need to win the state”.
Renewed hope
Earlier in his address, the Onitsha North Chairman of APC Ezennia Ojekwe, said “It has become very imperative for the Igbo nation to join mainstream politics and they can only do that through joining APC, the ruling party.
“We are not here for lengthy talk, but to take a strong resolve of taking the gospel of renewed hope to all the wards and the nooks and crannies of Igbo land. It is on this note that I appeal to party members to eschew bitterness and forgive one another. Let us cease counting mistakes of the past.”
The rally had in attendance the Chairman of APC, Basil Ejidike, represented by Anambra Central Zonal Vice Chairman of APC, Augustine Muomife, and State Welfare Officer of APC, Hon. Ekene Okafor, and Onitsha North Secretary of the party Hon. Victor Elem and amongst others.
