The Flamingos of Nigeria put up a dominant performance in the first-leg of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final qualifying round, beating Algeria 4-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikene, Ogun State.

Up against one of the continent’s powerhouses, the young Algerians were outmatched in Ikenne. Nigeria sealed the game in under 20 minutes, scoring three quick goals. A fourth goal at the very end capped a dominant 4-0 win.

The victory placed Nigeria in a very favourable position. Algeria will need a massive performance at home to keep their qualification hopes alive.

The qualifiers brought several nations closer to the final phase, with Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire taking promising steps forward.

For Algeria, they will need a remarkable comeback to turn things around in the second leg.
