Nigeria's U-17 women's football team, the Flamingos.

Nigeria’s Flamingos reached the Round of 16 at this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco after a dominant performance earned them a 4-0 win against Samoa in Rabat.

Nigerian Queen Joseph scored a double to take her tournament tally to three (3), and Captain Shakirat Moshood scored from the penalty spot, while defender Azeezat Oduntan added a lovely goal to put the result beyond doubt.

The Flamingos knew they needed a high-margin win to be able to reach the knock-out rounds, after a 4-1 defeat against Canada on the opening day and a 1-0 defeat by France.

The win was enough to see the Flamingos, bronze medallists at the 2022 finals hosted by India, reach the Round of 16.

In the group’s other fixture, Canada defeated France 2–1 to top Group D with six points, while Nigeria advanced as the best third-placed team.

Nigeria will now look ahead to the round of 16, where they will face Italy, buoyed by a rejuvenated attack and a confident display that reaffirmed their status as one of the competition’s traditional powerhouses.
