U.S drone attack kills ISKP planner in Afghanistan
The United States announced it carried out a drone attack in eastern Afghanistan against a planner of an ISIL-affiliated group on Saturday, after the group claimed a deadly bombing in Kabul airport.
The Urban of the U.S Central Command, Captain Bill said in a statement that, “The unmanned air strike occurred in the Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties.”
US forces overseeing the evacuation have been forced into closer security cooperation with the Taliban to prevent any repeat of a suicide bombing that killed scores of civilians crowded around one of the airport’s main access gates and 13 American troops.
The news comes as the US forces helping to evacuate Afghans desperate to flee Taliban rule issued an alert on Saturday of possible attacks at Kabul airport.
The United States believes there are still specific, credible threats against the airport after the deadly bombings.
A 29-year-old journalist and nine close relatives managed to board one of the evacuation planes and are now going through the lengthy asylum process in a northern Spanish city.
“There is a feeling of desperation in Afghanistan.
“Imagine if you had made a building for 20 years now, that building is getting destroyed and you cannot go out from that building. It feels very bad. Our education, our hopes for ourselves, for our children, for our future, for our country is all destroyed,” he said.
