U.S. Embassy, Baze University Explore Academic Collaboration

Baze University has hosted a delegation from the Public Diplomacy Section of the United States Embassy in Abuja to explore areas of academic cooperation, research collaboration and public diplomacy engagement.

The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jamila Shu’ara, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the United States Mission in Nigeria and tertiary institutions in the country.

Members of the U.S. Embassy team included the Public Diplomacy Officer, Raisa Dukas; the American Center Director, Grace Lamon; the Country Education Specialist, Folashade Adebayo; the Public Engagement Specialist, Adediran Adegoke; and the Established Opinion Leader Coordinator, Blessing Abbah.

On the university side were the Vice-Chancellor; the Deputy Vice-Chancellors for Administration and Academic Affairs, Dr Atiku Saleh and Professor Osita Agbu; the Registrar, Professor Abiodun Adeniyi; alongside other principal officers and senior academics.

Discussions during the meeting centred on opportunities for academic exchange, research support and capacity development. Programmes highlighted included the Fulbright Programme for faculty exchange and research, the English Language Fellows Programme, access to the U.S. Embassy’s e-Library USA, and other initiatives such as the International Visitor Leadership Programme and EducationUSA.

The U.S. Embassy delegation also acknowledged the institution’s academic environment and facilities, noting the role of public diplomacy in supporting higher education development in Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor said the university was open to partnerships that support teaching, research and knowledge exchange, adding that collaboration with international institutions remains important to academic growth.

The visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph involving representatives of both institutions.
