U17 AFCON: Ugbade calls 48 players to camp

Head coach of the Nigeria U-17 team, Nduka Ugbade, has invited 48 players to camp in Abuja in preparation for this year’s Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

In a statement by the media team of the Nigeria Football Federation Thursday, the Golden Eaglets will begin their preparations on Monday with the invited players expected to resume on Friday, 20th January.

The invitees, which include most of the squad that won the WAFU B U-17 Championship in the Ghanaian city of Cape Coast last summer, will train under the supervision of the Ugbade, who captained Nigeria to the U-16 World Cup victory in China, and his coaching crew.

The Africa U17 Cup of Nations has been scheduled for Algeria 8th – 30th April, from which the four top-placed teams will qualify to fly Africa’s flag at the FIFA U17 World Cup finals that will be staged in Peru 10th November – 2nd December.

Nigeria are five-time champions of the FIFA U17 World Cup after triumphs in China in 1985, Japan in 1993, Korea Republic in 2007, United Arab Emirates in 2013 and Chile in 2015.
