The President of UFUK Dialogue Foundation, Mr Emrah Ilgen, delivered a heartfelt welcome address at the 8th Annual Dialogue and Friendship Iftar and Award Ceremony, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to fostering peace, understanding, and unity among diverse communities.

Tonight, we gather not just for an Iftar dinner but for something greater—a reaffirmation of our shared humanity, our commitment to peace, and our unwavering belief in dialogue.

In this sacred month of Ramadan, when our Muslim brothers and sisters fast from dawn to dusk, we reflect on the values of patience and humility.

This season of faith reminds us that while our paths may differ, they lead us to the same truths—that kindness is strength, that service to others is an act of worship, and that love—true, selfless love—can heal even the deepest wounds.

Beyond Ramadan and Lent, we must ask ourselves: What kind of world are we creating? Are we building walls or bridges? Are we opening our hearts or closing them? Are we making room at our tables, or are we choosing who sits and who does not?

At UFUK Dialogue, our mission has always been clear—to foster understanding where there is division, to amplify voices of peace where there is discord, and to remind each other that no one should feel like a stranger in their own land.”

The theme for this year’s event, Reserve in Your Hearts a Seat for Everyone, is not just a phrase but a call to action, urging inclusivity regardless of faith, background, or belief.

Mr Ilgen further emphasised the significance of the awards presented during the ceremony:

The awards tonight are not merely trophies; they are symbols of what is possible when people choose to stand for peace, justice, and unity.

They remind us that change does not come from grand gestures alone but from daily acts of kindness, the willingness to listen, and the courage to embrace those different from us.

Tonight serves as a beacon, guiding us towards a world where faith is not a barrier but a bridge, where differences are not threats but strengths, and where everyone—no matter who they are—has a seat at the table.”

Rear Admiral O.M. Olotu, Commandant of the National Defence College in Nigeria, commended UFUK Dialogue for its dedication to promoting peaceful coexistence.

The Defence College is proud to be associated with the activities of UFUK Dialogue.

They teach us a great deal about peaceful coexistence, love, and living together in harmony while ensuring that no one is left behind.

This is a wonderful example of their work over the years.

They not only bring us together but also contribute significantly to society. I want to pledge our continued support for all UFUK Dialogue programmes—you can always count on us to stand with you.

What you do is truly inspiring and worthy of emulation, as it signifies love, togetherness, and unity.

In her speech, Hajia Aisha Bagudu reflected on the essence of Ramadan beyond the fasting period:

Ramadan represents peace, compassion, love, and understanding. It is about sharing food and clothing.

But what happens after Ramadan? Do we continue sharing food? Do we continue fostering peace? Do we continue coming together?”

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of various awards, recognising individuals and organisations for their contributions to peace, education, and media. Among the awardees were:

Former President Muhammadu Buhari, honoured for his efforts in promoting peace.Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, recognised for his contributions to education.Daily Trust, awarded for excellence in media.

The event that was held in Abuja was graced by prominent personalities from within and outside Nigeria, including Muhammad H. Abdullahi, former Minister of Environment, who represented former President Muhammadu Buhari; Senator Babangida Oseni; and Aisha Aminu Bagudu, wife of the former Governor of Kebbi State.

The UFUK Dialogue’s Annual Iftar and Award Ceremony continues to serve as a platform for fostering unity, promoting dialogue, and celebrating those dedicated to building a more inclusive and peaceful world.
