UK PM Holds Talks With Rwandan President

UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has held a phone conversation with President Paul Kagame about the controversial scheme to deport migrants to Rwanda.

Report says the leaders “committed to continue working together to ensure this important partnership is delivered successfully”, a statement from Downing Street said.

Meanwhile, the UK government’s plan to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda has been met by opposition, although a British High Court ruled in December 2022 that it was lawful.

However, opponents had argued that Rwanda is not a safe destination for asylum seekers and that the scheme breaks human rights laws.

Report says the British government will announce plans for a new law barring those entering the country through unofficial routes from claiming asylum.
