The UK says it recognises Nigeria as a growing regional and global powerhouse.
British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery said this on Wednesday while delivering a goodwill message at the 2023 Cabinet Retreat held for Ministers and all Top Government functionaries.
Montgomery also confirmed the UK’s renewed partnership with Nigeria adding that the most populous nation in Africa, Nigeria matters to the United Kingdom.
“I would like to recognize Nigeria as a growing regional and global powerhouse.
Nigeria is likely to become third third-largest country in the world by the Year 2050
“Nigeria matters to the UK, we share history, and commitments to democratic politics, we share an interest in defence, security trade and Investment and we share strong people-to-people links. The Nigerian in the diaspora, the creative industry, and the sports stars are central to the UK’s culture and life.
“We also have strong mutual accountability development agreement at the federal and state level on health, education, job creation and government effectiveness,“ he added.
The UK High Commissioner also affirmed the British government’s support for Nigeria saying it will continue to be in the spirit of mutual respect.
Montgomery applauded President Tinubu’s initiatives to enhance economic stability and steer the country toward a more prosperous growth trajectory.
He added that the eight Presidential Priorities of the present administration have provided clarity of purpose.
“Your administration inherited big problems, It is a difficult time, people are hurting, expectations are high better deliveries are desperately needed and with global context. Your eight priorities under your renewed eight-point agenda provide clarity of purpose, and your policy advisory committee has identified plans and performance indicators.
The UK High Commissioner expressed confidence that President Tinubu’s priorities can remove the constraints on entrepreneurial spirit and give a helping hand to those who need it

He added that this will move Nigeria forward.
