UN Confirms Nigeria as 2025 ICEGOV Host
The United Nations has officially confirmed that Nigeria will host the 2025 edition of the prestigious International Conference on Governance (ICEGOV). This significant announcement highlights Nigeria’s commitment to promoting effective governance practices and underscores its growing influence in global governance discourse.
This was stated on Thursday in Abuja by Isime Esene, the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s Special Assistant on Media and Communication.
An important turning point in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey has been reached with the confirmation from the UN University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV).
Esene pointed out that as ICEGOV is a renowned international conference, the occasion will showcase Nigeria’s leadership in digital governance, innovation, and technological breakthroughs on the international scene.
“Hosting this event presents a unique opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, foster multidisciplinary collaborations, and drive policy innovations that will shape the future of governance in Africa and beyond,” he said.
The local organiser of ICEGOV 2025 would be the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Additionally, NITDA will offer a forum for policy discussion, capacity building, and information sharing that will strengthen Nigeria’s strategic position in influencing the direction of sustainable digital transformation, digital public infrastructure (DPI), and e-governance.
“As we embark on this journey, the ministry calls upon stakeholders across government, academia, industry, and civil society to join hands in ensuring the successful hosting of ICEGOV 2025.
“This is our time to showcase Nigeria’s digital achievements through leadership and capacity to drive technological advancements for sustainable governance.
“Nigeria is ready; the world is watching. Together, we will shape the future of digital governance,” he said.
The minister, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said that Nigeria’s selection to host ICEGOV 2025 was a recognition of her efforts to drive digital transformation and innovation in governance.
“I am a firm believer in the importance of academia and research in supporting global discussions on e-governance, and we have seen this in some of the input in government initiatives.
“Initiatives like the National AI Strategy and the National Digital Economy, and e-Governance Bill are laying the foundation for the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.
“As we prepare to welcome you all to Nigeria, we look forward to very useful outcomes that will be beneficial to the growth of digital governance and policy development globally,” he said.
