The Government of Anambra state has taken delivery of about 5000 dignity kits donated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for flood victims in the state.
The items which were received by the Anambra state Commissioner for women and social welfare, Honourable Ify Obinabo, are to support those who are currently in flood submerged areas, especially children and women.
Appreciating the organization for their support especially as it concerns pregnant women and young girls, Hon Obinabo noted that with the supplies received, flood victims in the state will be well catered for.
The women and social welfare boss also explained that with the support, the state will be adequately prepared ahead of next flood by training personnels in readiness for the flood.
She also assured UNFPA of the state’s readiness in partnering with them to promote the well-being of women and girl child.
While handing over the items, the Humanitarian Coordinator of UNFPA, Mr Macaulay Sabum Christian, noted that the mandate of UNFPA is to protect vulnerable women and girls who are victims of flood, rape and other types of abuses hence the need to take action in ensuring that their well-being is not trampled upon in the society.
Meanwhile, the team from UNFPA had earlier interfaced with the Commissioner for women and social welfare where they intimated her that delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every child birth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled remains the number one priority of the organization.
Items donated were sanitary and personal hygiene kits among other clothings.
The UNFPA donation was done in collaboration with the Royal Heritage Health Foundation.
