Emphasizing the need for public financing to sustain and accelerate the process, Munduate also advocated the transformation of health facilities and community outreach programs that would promote the registration of births and deaths, a step the UN agency says recognises life events in Nigeria.
The UNICEF Country representative disclosed that the UN agency is currently recording births of 5 million Nigerian children in recognition of the importance of integration of the eCRVS system.
“Unicef remains steadfast in its support of the Federal government of Nigeria’s endeavour to build a sustainable civil registration and vital statistics system. we are committed to providing assistance in establishing the necessary requirements for the successful compilation and process of vital data.”
Munduate emphasized that every Nigerian child must be guaranteed their rights before their births.
She added that a robust and efficient civil registration system is the cornerstone of development and governance.
“It ensures that every heartbeat and every life event is not just recorded but recognized, forming basis for policy, planning, and service delivery that meets the needs of all Nigerians.”
