Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has commended Muslim groups in the state for demonstrating unity, describing it as a panacea for societal development and economic prosperity.

The Governor made the commendation while addressing participants at the Muslim Unity Convention, organised by the Kebbi State Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The convention brought together various Muslim groups to deliberate on responsible leadership and patriotism.

Governor Idris specifically praised Islamic religious groups, including Izala, Tijjaniyya, Qadiriyya, and others, for coming together in unity.

He also highlighted his administration’s efforts to tackle youth unemployment, which include the recruitment of about 5,000 workers over the past two years.

According to the Governor, his administration has employed over 2,000 new teachers, hundreds of nurses, and absorbed numerous casual workers into permanent and pensionable positions.

He further mentioned the establishment of Skill Acquisition Centres aimed at empowering youths and promoting self-employment.

The Guest Speaker, Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Makari, who is also the Chief Imam of the Abuja National Mosque, lamented the moral decay in society and urged the Ulama to become more active and solution-driven.

Professor Makari commended Governor Nasir Idris for “upholding religious clerics in high esteem and strengthening moral values and good virtues among the populace.”

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Kebbi State, Sani Aliyu, expressed gratitude to the governor for establishing the Ministry of Religious Affairs and providing the necessary support to instil religious values in society.

He also applauded the governor’s “benevolence to Muslims and Christians alike.”
