A University Don and the Head of Department Peace and Conflict studies In Taraba State University Dr. Julius Ngoma has called for collective peace building among inter-religious organisation and government agencies to end the reoccurring communal clashes and inter faith conflict experienced in some part of the country.
Dr. Ngoma stated this in an interview with Voice of Nigeria in Jalingo the Taraba state capital.
He said most of the inter-faith conflicts and communal clashes experience in some part of the country were as a result of poor sensitisation among religious and community leaders who do not provide adequate information for non-violence approach to conflict situations and mutual respect for one another.
“Building peace together among cultural line, inter-faith and political affiliation is very paramount for actualizing our individualistic and collective goals, we must seek to build the culture of peace through peaceful approaches to issues”
The head of department noted that to achieve a peaceful society the job cannot be left to the government alone and it agencies, stressing that all hands must be on deck to ensure a safe and peaceful society.
“Since conflict, wars begins in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed with peace Education, awareness, sensitization in all spheres of life. Peace building is not just for government and its agencies but for all the citizens,” he said.
He called for collaborative efforts with religious leaders, military, security agencies, civil society organizations to support the efforts of the federal and states governments in fostering peace in the country.
Dr. Julius Ngoma also noted that the Taraba State University Peace and Conflict department is providing relevant knowledge to its students to be peace Ambassador in the society to complement the efforts of the government.
