UNIZIK Hosts 19th Convocation, Honoring Seyi Tinubu, Over 8,000 Graduates

Nnamdi Azikiwe University best known as UNIZIK in Awka, Anambra State, will hold its 19th convocation ceremony starting Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The event will celebrate 8,157 graduates across various disciplines and confer honorary degrees on esteemed individuals for their societal contributions.

At a press briefing in the university’s conference hall, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu announced that the convocation will include a lecture by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume. Honorary doctoral degrees will be awarded to Prof. Ali Muhammed Pate, Nigeria’s Minister of Health; Oluwaseyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; and Chief Chika Emenike, a renowned industrialist. Each honoree is being recognized for their outstanding contributions and impact on both the university and society.
The graduating class includes 6,126 first-degree recipients, 463 PhD candidates, and 16 from the UNIZIK Business School, alongside holders of postgraduate diplomas in education and other fields. Prof. Ikechebelu emphasized the university’s commitment to academic and infrastructural excellence, citing the initiatives under the “BLESSED UNIZIK” mantra aimed at fostering a conducive learning environment and restoring stability after recent leadership challenges.
“We have made significant progress in improving our academic, administrative, and infrastructural landscapes,” he stated.
“Key achievements include a steady electricity supply and ongoing beautification projects on campus, which enhance the overall learning experience.”
The Acting Vice-Chancellor also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Education Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa for their timely support in helping UNIZIK navigate a challenging period and regain stability.
“As part of the celebration, the university will also commission several completed projects, including new office blocks and hostels, further demonstrating a commitment to student welfare and academic excellence.”
“With preparations underway, the university assures graduates and attendees that comprehensive security measures will be in place throughout the convocation events.”
