UNN To Award 12,526 First Degrees At 52nd Convocation

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, UNN, Prof. Charles Igwe says a a grand total of 12,526 first degrees will be conferred during the upcoming 52nd Convocation ceremony of the University on May 10th.

Prof. Igwe stated this while briefing newsmen on activities to mark the 52nd convocation ceremony of the University which would be the last convocation he will hold as the Vice Chancellor.

He highlighted that this represents an increase of 1082 compared to the figures from the 51st convocation.

The breakdown provided by Prof. Igwe is as follows:

  • Bachelor’s Degree 1st Class Honours: 253
  • Bachelor’s Degree 2nd Class Honours Upper: 4,834
  • Bachelor’s Degree 2nd Class Honours Lower: 5,883
  • Bachelor’s Degree 3rd Class Honours: 747
  • Pass: 25
  • Unclassified Degrees: 746

These figures sum up to a total of 12,526 first degrees.

Prof. Igwe explained that the unclassified degrees are awarded to graduates of certain courses, such as medicine, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine, where classification into first, second, or third classes is not always applicable.

In addition to the undergraduate degrees, the Vice Chancellor also announced that a total of 1,438 postgraduate degrees and diplomas would be awarded at the 52nd convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria.

Prof. Igwe provided a detailed breakdown of these postgraduate awards:

  • Doctorate degrees: 412 recipients
  • Master’s degrees: 961 recipients
  • Postgraduate diplomas: 75 recipients.

Prof. Charles Igwe expressed sincere gratitude to the Nigerian Government, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, as well as the university’s friends and alumni for their steadfast support and generosity towards the University of Nigeria.

He said the University of Nigeria has retained its enviable position in the league of universities in Nigeria and beyond.”
