Russian state media company VGTRK has been hit by an unprecedented cyberattack, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who stated on Monday that experts are working to identify those responsible.

VGTRK, which manages Russia’s primary national TV channels and numerous regional channels and radio stations, confirmed earlier on Monday that its online services had been targeted overnight. Despite the attack, radio and TV broadcasts continue to operate normally.

“Our state media holding, one of the largest, has experienced an unprecedented hacker attack on its digital infrastructure,” Peskov told reporters, adding that VGTRK is actively addressing the aftermath of the breach.

Specialists are investigating the attack’s origins and analysing traces left behind by those responsible for targeting this critical infrastructure.

VGTRK, officially known as the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, has yet to respond to requests for comment.
