A New York, United States of America-based Nigerian professor of mathematics, Lawrence Udeigwe, is set to release new single.

Prof. Udeigwe, says that his new single titled, ‘Today’, encourages people to make the best of each new day.

The academic, whose stage name is Udeigwe, also stated that he had invested a lot of effort into developing his music career, despite being a mathematician. He said, “I released my first album in 2006 and formed my first band in Pennsylvania, USA, in 2007. It has been at least 16 years of slow but steady work.

I used to release music under the pseudonym, ‘Lorens Chuno’. But in the past few years, I started to see the need to have a more encompassing name that encapsulates my personal, academic and artistic life.”

Inspiration

Udeigwe described it as having a rich flavour of jazz, adding that he wanted his fans and music lovers to enjoy the classic mix of afrobeats in the single.

The academic-cum entertainer added that though Nigerian music was currently enjoying global acceptance, a lot could still be done.

He said, “In terms of danceable tunes, it occupies a good space. However, I think there is still a huge unoccupied space that Nigerian music could be filling. We are yet to tap into our potentials when it comes to listener-friendly and purely instrumental music.”

Anticipated collaboration

“I feel Ladipoe will be a good fit for a song I’m currently working on. I will also like to work with artistes such as The Cavemen, Tiwa Savage, Flavour and Niniola.” He said.
