US Embassy Trains Police on Counterfeit Currency Investigation in Kano

A team from the Regional Security Office of the United States Embassy has conducted training for officers of the Kano Police Command in North West Nigeria.

Led by Supervisory Special Agent, Mr. Thaddaeus Hoyt, the team trained detectives attached to the Command’s Anti Money Laundering, Anti Fraud, and Cyber Crime Units on the identification of valid and suspected counterfeit currencies.

A press statement by Kano State Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Kiyawa said the training, which took place at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department Bompai Kano, was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two agencies in combating crimes related to counterfeit currency.

He explained that the US Embassy team also donated equipment to support the Kano Police Command’s efforts in identifying counterfeit currencies which will help in preliminary investigations.

Kiyawa noted the appreciation of Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo for the support and cooperation received from the US Embassy Team and looks forward to continued collaboration in fighting transnational crimes.

He reiterated the determination of the Command in protecting the economy and maintaining law and order in Kano State.

Recall that the Kano State Police Command recently arrested three suspects and recovered huge amounts suspected to be counterfeit currencies including US Dollars.
