In a collaborative effort between US Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with Coca-Cola foundation, and TechnoServe Nigeria, privately-owned waste recycling companies in Anambra State received donations of plastic recycling equipment.

The handover ceremony took place at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat in Awka, with the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Felix Odimegwu, representing Governor Prof. Charles Soludo.

The initiative, part of the Nigeria Plastic Solution Activity (NPSA), aims to address the challenge of plastic waste management in Nigeria through innovative recycling solutions. Dr. Odimegwu emphasized that the donations align with Governor Soludo’s agenda to prioritize the circular economy in the state.

Odimegwu emphasized that the gesture was in view of the Nigeria Plastic Solution Project to support plastic recycling industries in the state.

He urged all private recycling companies in the state to come forward and affiliate with the state government as that would align them with opportunities such as this.

The goal of the initiative is to combat plastic pollution in Anambra State, creating a clean, green, healthy, and sustainable environment for all residents. Private recycling companies are encouraged to collaborate with the state government to access similar opportunities and contribute to a more environmentally-friendly future,” Commissioner Odimegwu stated.

Beneficiaries of the donated equipment, including a 150kv generator and washing line machine, are Zubnol Global Link Industry Limited and Ndukauba Investment Resources Limited. Additional support, such as trucks, generators, and washing lines, will be provided to other recycling companies in the state in the future.
