‘Uzoho shines,’ ‘Moses shocked’: How Nigerians faired in Europa-League
It was a mixed grill for Nigerian players who in the Europa League Thursday evening.
Goal keeper Francis Uzoho put up a man-of-the-match performance for Cypriot side Omonia against Manchester United.
Playing at the Old Trafford arena in the Europa League, Uzoho faced 12 shots – saving 7 of them.
But in stoppage time, Substitute Scott McTominay scored the winner to give the Reds a hard-fought 1-0 win.
Despite ending up on the losing side, Uzoho was adjudged the star-performer.
In France however, striker Moses Simon was helpless as his home side FC Nantes fell 0-4 to German side Freiburg.
Nantes are now winless in their last seven games (six defeats and one draw).
Victor Boniface bagged a brace as Belgian club Union St.Gilloise were held to a 3-3 draw at home by Sporting Braga.
Boniface scored in the 20th minute to make it 1-1 and netted in the 62nd minute to tie the game at 3-3.
The draw is enough to send Boniface and his St.Gilloise teammates into the knockout phase.
