As Valentine’s Day approaches, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), has called on Nigerians to celebrate love responsibly by prioritizing their health and safety.

With the theme: “Love Wisely, Spread Love not HIV,” the agency reminds everyone that love and protection should go hand in hand.

“HIV remains a significant public health concern, but it is preventable.”

NACA warns against risky behaviors such as unprotected sex, multiple partners, and substance use that can impair judgment and increase the risk of HIV transmission.

In a statement by Head, Public Relations and Protocol, NACA Toyin Aderibigbe, the agency stresses the importance of knowing one’s status through regular HIV testing, which should be part of routine healthcare.

“Testing helps individuals make informed decisions to protect themselves and their partners.

“We want everyone to enjoy Valentine’s Day while making choices that safeguard their health.

“HIV is preventable, and we have the tools to stop its spread,” said Dr. Temitope Ilori, Director General of NACA.

To encourage safe practices, NACA is offering free HIV testing at all government-owned hospitals across the country.

The agency urges people to take advantage of these services and make testing a priority.
