Vice President Shettima Mourns Late Borno State SSG

Nigeria’s Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, mourned the late Secretary to the State government of Borno state, Alhaji Jidda Shuwa, who passed away on Saturday 3rd, June 2023.

Vice-President, Shettima attended the funeral prayer alongside other dignitaries on Sunday and described the late SSG as an Icon of work ethics, who moved from the local level to the federal level with the capacity of good governance.

The vice president condoled the Borno State government as well as the Immediate family of the deceased.

The late SSG, Alhaji Usman Jidda Shuwa, was a War College fellow born on 14th February 1958 in Bama town, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

Jidda Shuwa was a graduate of Law from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, who joined the Borno State Government in 1981 as a Master Grade II, He had also been a part-time Lecturer of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Maiduguri.

Alhaji Usman also had considerable administrative acumen, In 1996, Alhaji Usman Jidda was appointed Principal Secretary to the Head of State and Commander-In-Chief in 1998.

In 1999, he was appointed Director of Administration in the Federal Civil Service and was posted to the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission as Director in charge of Mobilization. From there until 2009, when he statutorily retired from the Federal Civil Service. Alhaji Usman had served meritoriously as a Director in many Federal Ministries, including those of Defence, Finance, Health, Education and Transport, among others. He had also served as Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development.

In June 2015, Alhaji Usman Jidda Shuwa was appointed Secretary to the Borno State Government, by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, a position he still occupies. He is the Secretary of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Chairman of the Forum of Secretaries to the Governments of Northern States. He has also been a Member of the Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) since its inauguration in October 2016, among many positions he held.

Other dignitaries at the funeral were the immediate past Governor of kebbi state, Atiku Bagudu, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Senator Ali Ndume, Former Governor of Borno State Maina Ma’aji Lawan,  Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Senator-elect Central Borno, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan among others.
