Victor Osimhen Ready for AFCON Qualifiers After Strong Form
Victor Osimhen has expressed his readiness for the final phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda. The 25-year-old has been in exceptional form since joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli at the close of the summer transfer window.
Osimhen has contributed 12 goals (eight goals and four assists) in just nine appearances for the Turkish club. He scored twice in Galatasaray’s 3-2 win over second-placed Samsunspor on Sunday, marking his second brace in just three days.
After missing Nigeria’s recent doubleheader against Libya, the former Lille player is excited to rejoin the national team. He expressed confidence following his strong performances, stating, “The victory was important. We will go to the national team with this confidence. When we return, we have the power to win every match.”
Osimhen, who has quickly become a fan favorite in Istanbul, dedicated the weekend’s victory to Galatasaray’s passionate supporters, who have embraced him since his arrival. “I am very happy at Galatasaray. The fans love me very much. I dedicate the victory to them,” he said.

His most recent goal for Nigeria came against Benin Republic in the reverse fixture in July, when the Super Eagles secured a 3-0 win. Osimhen will be aiming to continue his strong form when Nigeria faces Benin Republic again in Abidjan on Thursday.
Currently, Nigeria sits at the top of Group D with 10 points, and a win would secure their place in the 2025 AFCON finals in Morocco with a game to spare.
