Brazilian side Palmeiras retained their Copa Libertadores for a second year running.

In an all-Brazilian final, the Sao Paolo side edged rivals Flamengo 2-1 with the winning goal coming in extra time.

Rafael Veiga set the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo on fire with a goal five minutes in.

Flamengo hit back in the second half through Gabriel Barbosa, as the match ebbed and flowed Brazilian style.

It had to take something out of the locker to get a winner and Palmeiras have substitute Deyverson to thank as his extra time goal ensured the cup returned to Sao Paolo.

As expected, the final whistle triggered mass street celebrations all over Sao Paolo.

Palmeiras became the first side in 20 years to win the trophy back-to-back .

Argentina’s Boca Juniors did same in 2001.

Palmeiras will now represent South America at the FIFA World Club to be staged in the United Arab Emirates.

The draws will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021.
