Voice of Nigeria seeks partnerships to improve operations

Voice of Nigeria (VON) is working to secure funding and partnerships to promote innovation and infrastructural development that will move the organisation to greater heights.

The Director General of VON, Malam Jibrin Ndace made this known at a lecture to mark the 2024 Global Media and Information Literacy Week at Voice of Nigeria Broadcasting House, Ikoyi, Lagos state, South West Nigeria.

Representing VON’s DG, Deputy Director of Engineering, Engr. Ashiru Lamidi said the management of Voice of Nigeria is committed to improving its infrastructures to enhance its operations.

“In terms of infrastructure development, the management is working tirelessly to secure more funding and collaborations. Our current Director-General is making efforts to make sure that we gather the necessary support from agencies that can help us in terms of collaboration, equipment, and even funding. This the Director-General is doing honestly and we can all see it, the only prayer is that all those moves be successful.”

On his part, the keynote speaker and VON’s Deputy Director of Digital Media, Dr. Qasim Akinreti, emphasized the need for staff to promote VON’s Programmes on all social media platforms.

According to him “The staff need to do more, that is my emphasis now, every staff must be following our Facebook page, must re-tweet our stories, on Tiktok they need to follow and share on their own platforms, that is the only way we can enrich the Voice of Nigeria website.

“We are already there but we need to do more, it is not for one person only, it is for all of us if truly we are loyal to Voice of Nigeria then we should patronize its social media platforms, that’s just the basics, if you do that, the more the merrier, so the numbers will grow, if the number of audience grows, we are going to have a lot of followers and engagements,” he stated.

The event convener, VON’s Assistant Director of Strategic Planning and Corporate Development (SPCD) Dr. Mujeedah Olagunju, said the organisation is celebrating the 2024 UNESCO global media and literacy week to sensitize the public on the various issues centered around media technologies, global media space, and digitization as the theme for this year’s event is central to human existence.

“We decided to celebrate because of so many issues centered around media technologies, the global media space, and digitization. We saw the theme and we knew this theme was central to each and every heart and human existence,” he said.

Dr. Olagunju thanked UNESCO for giving the platform for the lecture and also appreciated the keynote speaker, sponsor, and staff of Voice of Nigeria for making it a successful event.

“We want to thank UNESCO for giving us this platform to make this discussion, we also want to thank our speaker from Voice of Nigeria, Deputy Director Digital Media, Dr. Qasim Akinreti, our sole sponsor Rite Foods for gracing the occasion, and Voice of Nigeria staff for making today possible.”

Also in attendance at the Global Media and Information Literacy Week event are Voice of Nigeria’s Director of Information Technology, Mr. Kareem Morufu, Deputy Director of Programmes Operations, Mrs. Theresa Oladeji, Assistant Director of Adminstration General Service, Mrs. Ifeanyi Ozioko, Assistant Director Adminstration, Human Resource, Mr. Augustine Ahaba and the Corporate Affairs Manager, Rite Foods Nigeria, Mr. Innocent Adulugba.

Global Media and Information Literacy Week is an annual event observed from October 24th to 31st to raise awareness and celebrate the progress achieved towards Media and Information Literacy for all.

The theme for VON’s 2024 Global Media and Information Literacy Week event is ‘The New Digital Frontiers of Information- Media and Information Literacy for Public Interest Information.’
