Voice of Nigeria (VON), the Country’s external radio service, and Media Trust, a private multimedia company have agreed to collaborate in the areas of training, content sharing and fighting fake news.
The management of Voice of Nigeria, led by its Director General, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, paid a courtesy visit to the corporate headquarters of Media Trust in Abuja on Thursday.
The visit, the first of its kind between the two media organizations, was aimed at building partnerships as part of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Mallam Ndace said the collaboration was necessary to tell the true Nigerian story at home and abroad, and to counter the negative effects of fake news on the country’s image and interests.
He said; “One fake news is enough to demarket the country, he said. “I am here to work with you to fight this menace.”
The Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust, Ahmed Shekarau who welcomed the visit and the call for partnership, said the two organisations could start working together on the areas of cooperation as early as April.
He said; “Media Trust would work with VON to fine tune the details and areas of collaborations, and added he looks forward to sharing opportunities in the area of trainings, content and joint productions on projects that promote developmental stories.”
The two organisations are looking forward to leverage their respective experience in media and areas of expertise.
Media Trust also the publisher of the Daily Trust newspaper looks to expand its frontiers across borders. It has grown to become a major multimedia media brand in Nigeria.
