The management of Voice of Nigeria Lagos station, led by Engineer Maruf Kareem on behalf of the Director-General, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, has paid a sympathy visit to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Lagos. The visit followed a massive fire outbreak that engulfed a significant portion of the station.
The fire, which started around 5 PM on Wednesday, November 27th, in the Metro FM 97.7 live studio, rapidly spread to other parts of the building, including the studios of Radio One 103.5 FM.
The incident destroyed four out of five studios, offices, and personal belongings of staff members.
Despite the extent of the damage, the Director of Lagos Operations, Mrs. Bolanle Owoyemi, expressed relief that no lives were lost. She also clarified that contrary to speculations, the station’s library, which houses valuable archival materials dating back to Nigeria’s independence, was not affected by the fire.
Mrs. Owoyemi, speaking on behalf of the Director-General of FRCN, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, thanked Voice of Nigeria for its solidarity and support during this difficult time. She expressed optimism that FRCN Lagos would recover from the setback, stronger and better.
Meanwhile, both Metro FM 97.7 and Radio One 103.5 have resumed broadcasting, demonstrating the resilience of FRCN Lagos staff and management.
