Voice of Nigeria (VON), the country’s external radio service, and the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the government’s agency for public enlightenment, have agreed to work together to promote national culture and fight fake news.

The management of Voice of Nigeria, led by its Director General, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

The visit was part of the efforts to strengthen the partnership between the two government agencies under the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

Malam Ndace said Voice of Nigeria was ready to collaborate with the National Orientation Agency to tell the Nigerian story and restore public trust in public institutions.

He said the radio service was willing to support the agency’s programmes and initiatives, especially in the wake of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to create opportunities for young people and foster national development.

“On the social contract between Nigeria and the citizens, we are ready to partner with you and build a programme around it,” the DG VON said.

Malam Issa-Onilu said the National Orientation Agency was ready to work with Voice of Nigeria to reach the global audience with its messages and campaigns.

He said the agency would launch the National Lifestyle Charter, a social contract that spells out the expectations of the government and the citizens, on January 16 under the supervision of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

He said President Tinubu would officially unveil the charter as part of the efforts to build a national culture of what it means to be a Nigerian.

“We want the Voice of Nigeria platform to avail us the opportunity to disseminate the message,” he said, expressing his readiness to deepen the partnership and collaboration between the two agencies.
