Voice of Nigeria’s Staff, Cynthia Okere has won the 2024 Society of Occupational and Environmental Health Physicians of Nigeria, SOEPHON, Media Award for the Best Occupational Health Report On Radio/Social Media.
This took place in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria during the inaugural Media Excellence Awards and 2024 SOEHPON Conference Gala Nite.
According to the National Public Relations Officer of SOEPHON, Dr. Charles Onigbogi, the award is designed to recognise journalists who have significantly advanced occupational health practices in Nigeria through their impactful reports across various media platforms, including; Television, Radio, Print, and Social Media.
“The awardees have driven the SOEPHON agenda to policymakers in government circles,” he noted.
Cynthia Okere was among the two recipients of the inaugural Media Excellence Awards for 2024.
In her citation, SOEPHON highlighted her coverage of a two-day training workshop on occupational health and safety for the construction industry, organized by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment in March 2024.
This coverage was disseminated through VON network news, YouTube, Website and other Social media platforms.
According to SOEPHON, her well-circulated report significantly called for increased awareness and collaborative campaigns to educate workers on the importance of adhering to occupational health and safety standards.
In an interview, an elated Cynthia Okere expressed her gratitude, describing the recognition as ‘a profound honor and a testament to her passion.’
Okere urged fellow journalists to utilise Social media in this digital age to enhance their visibility and make a positive impact on society, particularly in countering negative narratives and misinformation prevalent online.
“Thank God for social media, which has made it easier for us to create a positive impact in our environment. Use it wisely and purposefully, not just for monetisation. Keep showcasing your work consistently, and one day, your efforts will be recognised,“ She added.
