Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday, visited the family of the late human rights activist and constitutional lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, in Ikeja, Lagos to condole with them on the death of their son, Mohammed.
Mohammed, who was also a lawyer, died on Wednesday, August 11, at the age of 52.
Professor Osinbajo said he was at the Fawehinmis to express his condolence to the mother of the deceased and widow of the late Chief Fawehinmi, Mrs. Ganiyat Fawehinmi.
The vice president said that the late Mohammed Fawehinmi identified with progressive causes and maintained advocacy with for the poor.
“Mohammed, as you know, was one of us. He always identified with progressive causes, identified with very progressive things, especially many of the issues that concerned his father in his life time.
“And he continually maintained very serious advocacy on behalf of the poor, on behalf of the less privileged.
“He used his legal career in a way that demonstrated that he was concerned about those who could not afford legal services or those who cannot speak up for themselves.”
Describing the death of Mohammed as “a very grave; very sad event.” Professor Osinbajo said that he was deeply affected by it.
The vice president prayed that God would comfort the family of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi as they mourn the loss of their son.
“It is very sad indeed but we know that God knows all things and nothing escapes his attention. There is no accident where he is concerned.
“So, we just pray for comfort for the family. I just pray that the Lord will comfort the family and keep them all well.”
Visit to the Badejos
Earlier on Saturday, Vice President Osinbajo paid a condolence visit to the family of the late General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Dr. Wilson Badejo, 74, who died last Saturday.
The late Badejo led the Foursquare Gospel Church from 1999 to 2009.
