Staff in the Office of the Vice President on Wednesday visited two children’s homes in the Federal Capital Territory as part of activities marking the 66th birthday of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
The homes visited were the FCT Unity Children’s Home, Gwako, Gwagwalada and the Abuja Children’s Home, Karu.
They presented bags of rice, bags of salt, drinks and cartons of noodles, among other food items, to the homes for the feeding of the children.
The staff also sang songs of praise with the children, prayed with them for the vice president and encouraged them to be of good character and to study hard to be responsible members of society.
Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ade Ipaye, who led the staff on the visit, said that it has become a tradition in the Office of the Vice President since 2016.
According to him, Prof. Osinbajo had asked the staff in his office and those who would want to give him presents on his birthday to gather money for the less privileged.
“I think that was his 60th actually and that has gone into starting a school for internally displaced children in Maiduguri where he is right now.
“Then, among the staff, we thought okay, we can’t look for money to buy him presents; rather on his behalf, we will visit the orphanages; so, we have been doing that annually.
“What we do is get money together among ourselves; ask the orphanages what they need and we procure those materials and come to present them on his birthday which we are doing right now.”
Excited Home
The administrator of the FCT Unity Children’s Home, Janet Ogah said that the home was excited to have the Vice President’s staff visit them.
She expressed gratitude to Vice President Osinbajo and his staff for the kind gesture.
“We are so happy; we are grateful. The home is so excited. They don’t even know how to extend their gratitude to the vice president. He is a wonderful father; he is a loving daddy.
“The FCT Unity Children’s Home is saying thank you very much. And we will live to remember this day. He is a good daddy; he is a loving father.
“Everybody is excited and happy and we are saying, thank you daddy. May the Lord grant you good health, long life and prosperity.”
One of the children at the home, Dorothy Okeabia said the children were full of joy that the staff in the Office of the Vice President visited them.
She prayed that Prof. Osinbajo would live long and be in good health.
At the Abuja Children’s Home in Karu, the delegation also presented food items to the home.
