Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured residents of Borno State, and Nigerians that their lives and property would be adequately protected.

VP Shettima gave the assurance in Maiduguri, the State capital, after he paid a visit to survivors of the recent bomb blast in the State.

Looking visibly worried by the condition of the patients-who are receiving treatment at the Muhammadu Buhari Trauma Centre of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the vice President said “this madness will soon be brought to an end.

We are here on behalf of the President to sympathise with the victims and reassure the good people of Borno and by extension the nation that the government remains unwavering in its commitment to secure the lives and property of our citizens,” he said.

VP Shettima commended the Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum for working hard to address the challenges confronting the State.

He said the federal government will continue to collaborate with the Borno State government to find a lasting solution to the problem of insecurity troubling the State.

“The Governor of Borno has been up and doing, working round the clock to compliment the efforts of the federal government.

“I will like to sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Governor.

“But most importantly, we are united in victory as well as in challenges. We are one nation, tied to a common destiny and by the grace of God, Insha Allah, this madness will soon be over,” the Vice President emphasised.

Senator Shettima, who visited the patients on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, wished them a speedy recovery.

A bomb blast had occured on Wednesday December 24, at a mosque at Gamboru market in Maiduguri metropolis, leaving at least five people dead.

The Chief Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital, who received the Vice President along with Governor Babagana Zulum, explained that they received 14 patients after the blast, but one passed on shortly after arriving at the hospital.

He said currently, seven of them are on admission with one in critical condition at the intensive care unit of the hospital while five have since been discharged.
