The Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima say there is a critical need to reposition the Nigerian Civil Service in order to attain the level of development achieved by other countries around the world.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima said this at the 2nd graduation ceremony of the Leadership Enhancement and Development Programme, LEAD-P, which held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Office of the Vice President, Dr. Tope Fasua, Vice President Shettima noted that the event marks a turning point in the fortunes of the Civil Service, hence the need to walk away from redundancy and inefficiency for the overall socio-economic development of the nation.

“The challenges of leadership is changing and becoming more complex. With the rigorous training that our leaders have gone through over months and perhaps years of preparation, it’s my belief that we’re unleashing on our public service a ready cohorts of game changers and change Ambassadors”.

According to him, the idea behind training a select few is for them to infect in a good way the vast majority with what they have learnt and to replicate themselves everywhere.

He said the avenue by which a government reviews its perspective of who gets what, when and how from the resources of State and indeed the values of time and training is through the Civil service.

The Vice President therefore urged the graduands to imbibe the spirit of change, vision and calculated risk taking that leaders are known for.

“This tells us how critical and central the civil service is and the weight of burden on your shoulders as graduands which I hope you will carry with all responsibility and grace, joy and happiness. You must know that your job is not all about money, but your calling is humanitarian and indeed divine.

“The task is not easy, the world is watching and your job is cut out for you.”
