VP Shettima Condoles With Akwa Ibom Governor Over Wife’s Death

Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid a condolence visit to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno over the demise of his wife, the late Patience Eno.

The Vice President who arrived in the Akwa Ibom State capital Uyo on Friday, around 11:47 GMT, immediately proceeded to Ikot Ekpene, the hometown of the Governor, in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of the State, where he condoled with the Governor.

Speaking to Journalists, the Vice President described Mrs Eno as a pillar of support to her husband and the nation.

“She had been a pillar of support to the husband, the family and we are all going to surely miss her.

“May grant His Excellency the Governor, the Senate President and the government and the good people of Akwa Ibom State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“But she led a life of service to God and humanity in pastoral care just like her husband. She was a wonderful woman,” said the Vice President.

VP Shettima also said the former First Lady should be celebrated for living a good life while she was alive.

“We are here to celebrate life, the life of an Amazon who has contributed immensely, tremendously to the peace, stability and progress of Akwa Ibom State, the South-South and the nation as a whole,” he said.

The Vice President was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, among others.

Earlier in the morning, a funeral church service was held in honour of the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, which was attended by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu and some State Governors.

A reception was later held for dignitaries and guests at the home of the Governor at Ikot Ekpene in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. 

The former First Lady died on the 27th day of September, 2024, after a brief illness. 

She was buried on Friday at their family home in Ikot Ekpene.
