VP Shettima Lauds Tijjaniyya Sect’s Unity Efforts

Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has applauded the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect’s contribution to fostering unity among the country’s Muslim community.

The Vice President gave the commendation in Kano State North West Nigeria, at the 2025 Maulud celebration for the late Shiek Ibrahim Niass, the spiritual leader of the Tijjaniyya sect at Sani Abacha Stadium.

Represented by Alhaji Babagana Fannami, the Vice President praised the Muslim sect for its continued support of the true teachings of Islam over the past century.

Shettima, the special guest of honour at the occasion, eulogised the guiding principles of the ‘Sufi’ sect to humanity.

He emphasised the unwavering tenacity of the sect in adhering to the lessons of Prophet Muhammad rather than compromising matters of Islam’s jurisprudence.

Shetima reminded Muslims of the need to emulate the true teachings of Islam and avoid extremism.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf also lauded the Tijjaniyya sect’s efforts in maintaining peace and harmonious relationships with other sects in Nigeria.

“As your host, we have to appreciate all of you for coming to Kano from far and near to attend this year’s maulud for Sheik Ibrahim Niass,” he said.

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi, who also serves as the national leader of the Tijjaniyya in Nigeria, prayed for the unity of Muslims around the globe and tolerance with believers of other faiths.

It was reported that the police attempted to halt the mauled celebration over an alleged security threat, which the Government has dismissed as a fake and unfounded claim.
