VP Shettima Presides Over NEC Meeting

Vice President Kashim Shettima is presiding over a special session of Nigeria’s Economic Council.

The meeting, which started at 10:36 GMT, is being held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Those in attendance include State Governors and the Ministers of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, and Agriculture, among others.

Recently, Governors of the 19 Northern States kicked against the new tax reforms proposed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service and it is expected that the matter will be thrashed at today’s meeting.

The National Economic Council is a statutory body that meets every month under the Chairmanship of the Vice President.

The Council usually reviews the performance of the economy as well as considers measures that need to be taken in order to boost the economy.

The Council also advises the President on economic matters.
