Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the federal government’s unwavering commitment to fostering peace, stability, and economic development in Plateau State and across the country.

Speaking on Saturday during a condolence visit to Sheikh Yahaya Jingir, the National Chairman of the Council of Ulama, Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa’Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s deep sympathies over the passing of Sheikh Saidu Jingir, a key religious leader.

Shettima underscored the administration’s dedication to national unity, highlighting Plateau’s strategic role in Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.

“President Tinubu specifically directed me to extend his heartfelt condolences and assure the people of Plateau that his administration prioritises peace and economic prosperity in this critical state,” Shettima stated.

He commended the Plateau State Government for its ongoing peace-building initiatives, emphasising that stability is essential for meaningful development.

“We must acknowledge and applaud the tireless efforts of the state government in maintaining the peace we now enjoy in Plateau. This administration will continue to support these efforts because without peace, there can be no progress,” he said.

During his visit, the vice president offered prayers for the late Sheikh Saidu Jingir and for the continued stability and prosperity of the nation. He also reassured Nigerians of positive changes stemming from the government’s economic reforms.

“I want to assure all Nigerians that better days lie ahead. The economic reforms being implemented by President Tinubu are designed with the nation’s long-term prosperity in mind. We are already seeing early positive signs, and we ask for your continued patience and support,” Shettima added.

Sheikh Yahaya Jingir expressed gratitude to both President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their solidarity during a difficult time. He praised the administration’s leadership and responsiveness, particularly in addressing critical infrastructure needs.

“When we requested that the Jos-Saminaka-Kaduna Road be repaired, you not only listened but acted swiftly. The approval of N33 billion for its reconstruction is clear evidence of a government that cares for its people,” Jingir said.

He also commended the government’s economic and agricultural policies, noting that they were beginning to yield results.

“We are witnessing a gradual but steady reduction in the price of essential commodities, particularly foodstuffs. This brings hope to ordinary Nigerians and affirms the positive direction of your policies,” he remarked.

Addressing the broader issue of religious and ethnic harmony in Plateau, Jingir highlighted the recent funeral of Sheikh Saidu Jingir as a testament to the state’s growing unity.

“The followers of Islam, Christianity, and other faiths have collectively resolved to embrace peaceful coexistence as the only way forward. The large turnout at the funeral demonstrated this shared commitment,” he stated.

The vice president was received at Yakubu Gowon Airport by Plateau’s Deputy Governor, Josephine Piyo, and accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, and Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Ahmadu.
