WAFCON: Nigeria defeats Cameroon to qualify for World Cup

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have defeated Cameroon 1-0 in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash on Thursday night in Casablanca, Morocco.

Nigeria opened the score with the only goal of the match with a header by Rashidat Ajibade (Jersey number 15) in the 57th minute of the game, to increase her tally to three in the competition.

At 63minutes, a yellow card was given to a Cameroonian player after bringing down Nigerian number 20 Jersey.

Again, Cameroon made a change at 69mins bringing in K. Fatima to enforce their team while Nigeria also substituted Ngozi Okobi Okeoghene with Rita Chikwelu at 72minutes.

Cameroon made another change at 86minutes by substituting Michaela BatyaAbam with Flora Kameni and Nigeria responded with their second substitution at 89minutes with extra 2 minutes added after 90mins.

With the victory, Nigeria qualified for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.

All four teams that make the semi-finals at the ongoing continental championship in Morocco would pick automatic tickets for the Women’s World Cup, with the team adjudged to have finished fifth presented with another chance for a shot at a Playoff Tournament next year.
