WAFU U17: Hosts, Togo Disqualified After Two Matches

The Organizing Committee of the WAFU U17 has disqualified Togo from the ongoing West African Football Union (WAFU) U17 championship after two players failed the eligibility test (MRI), BSNSports.com.ng can report.

This is contained in a letter signed by the Executive Director, Union des Federation Ques Africaine (UFOA B), Boureima Balima sent to the Secretary General of Togo Football Association.

The letter reads; As part of the U17 QAFCON Lome 2020, I have the advantage of informing you that the organizing committee of CAF youth competition decided in its meeting held on January 10 2021 to disqualify the Togolese U17 team and this in accordance with article 27.4 of the regulation of the U17 African Cup of Nation in Morocco which provides that, “if after having conducted the age eligibility test (MRI) for participating teams that only one player is found ineligible, the participating team will be disability.

“Accordingly, from which, I bring to your respectful attention that the results of your two matches played are canceled.”

Togo is in group A alongside Burkina Faso, Benin Republic and Niger. Togo had won their first two group matches after defeating Benin 3-1 and Niger 2-1. While Togo is disqualified, Benin Republic and Niger, who are yet to win a match will have to fight for the second group ticket. Benin and Niger will have to settle for the second slot in the battle of the two Republics when both teams meet in the last group game. Burkina Faso topped the table with 4 points followed by Niger with one point from two games while Benin lost their two first game.
