The Anambra State Ministry of Health has sensitised flood victims on the use of water guards to prevent diseases. The sensitisation was carried out simultaneously at the various camps across the affected local government areas of the state.

Speaking during the exercise, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike said that the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration’s priority is to ensure healthy living through the prevention of diseases, which is the reason for the ongoing massive hygiene sensitisation.

The Commissioner, who made this known while rounding off his visits at one of the camps in Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area, explained that the water guards will help the flood victims to be free from all forms of waterborne diseases like diarrhoea and cholera.

He further explained that cholera as a bacteria disease usually spreads through contaminated water that can also cause diarrhoea and dehydration and noted that if left untreated, can be fatal within hours.

Dr. Obidike commended Governor Soludo for giving the health ministry necessary support that helped them in establishing temporary clinics in all the camps.

Officials from World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations International Children Fund (UNICEF) among others, accompanied the commissioner on the visit.
