The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has warned that the world is in a climate crisis and proffered agriculture as a part of the climate solution.
While agrifood sectors emit around 1/3 of total greenhouse gas emissions, they are also extremely vulnerable to climate change.

“…We are in a climate crisis.
“Our food security is threatened by rising temperatures, erratic rainfall and extreme weather events.
“While agri-food sectors emit around one-third of total greenhouse gas emissions, they are also extremely vulnerable to climate change.
“Agriculture must be a part of the climate solution, and we are working to make it happen,” said the FAO.
It further noted that green and climate-resilient agriculture can reverse biodiversity loss, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance adaptation and resilience and promote healthy ecosystems and diets.
The world body, therefore, called for concerted efforts for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life for all.
